sisterwoman reading group
reading groups were prominent during the civil rights movement in the uk. organisations such as owaad and southall black sisters met regularly for group study, to ask questions and to share ideas.
sisterwoman reading group is first and foremost an informal monthly meet up group for like minded people to connect and have guided conversation with themes of wellness, mental health, healing, food and food justice.
readings will be shared to enable informed discussion with a shared foundation and encourage self study. however, our conversations aim to be organic and not necessarily always rooted in the texts themselves.
you think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. it was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.
